Fun Christmas Activities For The Whole Family!
Put the jolly in your holly-day Christmas activities this festive season!
The holidays are here and you most definitely need something to do, whether that be alone, with your kids or with someone else’s kids…presumably nieces and nephews. So we have compiled some of the most premium activities from the GC to Byron Bay for you and yours this December in the lead up to Christmas.
This year, the annual Christmas Carols were held virtually, and will be up until December 31st on YouTube and Facebook for anyone to see. It’s as simple of throwing it up on a screen and listening to talented people sing Christmas music. If you’re not up to that, what are you able to do?
Driving around the city, screaming out All I Want For Christmas Is You and looking at Christmas lights is one of the simplest ways to spark joy in the holiday season. The week before Christmas is probably best, but anytime through December, as the sun goes down, you can enjoy the sight of at least a few houses on each street decked out in lights and, in some cases, that terrifying inflatable Santas.
Every shopping centre will have a Santa available for photos and a cute moment with your child, or you if you’re lonely and unafraid of Mrs Claus, but at Pacific Fair that’s expanded to include live entertainment every day from the 14th to Christmas Eve, including carollers and a jazz band. We don’t know if they do scatting but you sure can if you want to.
Located at Burleigh Heads, this free movie marathon is the perfect way have a magical day out for free this holiday season. Cuddle Up to Elf, The Grinch or even the The Star, which somehow counts Oprah amongst its stars, and thus is quality.
Enjoy a chance to take a photo with Santa in the sand this Christmas at Byron Bay. Replace the sleigh with a surfboard! A truly unique experience, the photos will truly exemplify what an Aussie Christmas is all about: sand in your shorts.

From the 14th to the 18th, Beenleigh Marketplace is holding some really exciting, free Christmas events for kids, including donut decorating, snow globe crafts and making Christmas teddy bears! Kinda makes you wish you were a child again just to do it yourself. Did we mention it’s free?
Located at Southport Sharks, this is an opportunity for kids to write their letters to Santa, dance with elves and take photos for the grandparents. And isn’t that what Christmas is really all about?

A chance for the kids to let loose this holiday season, this party has everything. Jumping castles, face painting and Santa! Maybe you can even convince Santa to jump on the castle. That’s what we would do.
One man does the entirety of A Christmas Carol by himself on stage and you know what? That actually sounds fascinating. A definite must of lovers of theatre looking to marry that with a Christmas buzz.
📷: Blinky Bill - Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary
The Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is a fun place for the whole family, and for a limited time, it’s hosting a Blinky Bill Christmas Show. Four times daily, the beloved characters of Blinky and Nutsy, along with the rest of the crew, perform for the crowd and, afterwards, take Christmas photos. Can we start a petition to replace Rudolf with Blinky? We just might!
White Christmas at Movie World is a tradition for many Gold Coast natives, and for a reason. Not only do you get to enjoy the theme park at night, the snow is magical (particularly in this extremely hot December we’re having), the parade festive in the best way and the food is delicious. If we could replace our fingers with Turkey legs we’d have no fingers.

Don’t feel like cooking Christmas Lunch in the middle of the Aussie summer? No one does! The Cavill Hotel offers you the chance not to, and instead to enjoy a buffet, including seafood. Let Santa do the cooking this year!
Take it up a notch and dine on the seas with wine and live music. Sail down the Tweed River and enjoy seafood in a way that can only be described as very fancy. Luxe, even.
So take the kids out, have a blast, and enjoy the holiday season this year in whatever way you see fit. It’s about you, your joy and what you want to do to make memories. If that means you drive around and look at Christmas lights, that’s amazing! And if that means drinking wine on a beat, that’s also amazing and we are at least a little envious. Happy Holidays!

About the Author
There’s something just so soothing about listening to The Veronicas 2005 album “The Secret Life Of…” on vinyl while reading a book about the inner workings of the Disney company in the 1990s. At least, there is to me. Gold Coast born and raised, I’m the product of beaches, movies and hiding in libraries from the heat of the GC sun. Always currently obsessed with Cruel Intentions.
