Before we go any further, I feel like a disclaimer must be attached to the Alliance Francaise French Film Festival: you must allow the films to take your senses hostage.
Never before have you felt the intense pressure of your fingertips clutching the arms of your chair, nor has your stomach endured such powerful fits of laughter, or have your ears pricked at the sound of unison gasps of suspense.
Hosted by the Palace Barracks and Palace Centro Cinemas from 6 – 25th March 2014, make sure you get in quick to see a selection of France’s finest films.
A curated selection of films will satisfy every type of film enthusiast, including the hopeless romantics, bio buffs, the adventurous spirits, comedy clowns, family clans and the wee little ones.
Kicking off the festival is The Finishers, which tells the tale of a disabled son trying to reach out to his father through competing in a triathlon. The film is off-beat and beautifully captured, and will have you rooting for family to win above all.
Grab a group of girlfriends to go see It Boy to laugh and swoon over the chemistry-fuelled power play of an older woman dating a 20-something cutie. This fast-paced, honest film will be a hit for festival attendees.
The pain in your fingers will be well worth it once you see Jappeloup, which transforms the usually yawn-inducing sport, show jumping, into a suspenseful quest for a man and his horse.
Tour De Force is a comedy that keeps on giving as main character, Francois, throws caution to the wind and voluntarily puts himself on the Tour de France trail. Francois attracts strange characters and wins over his audience with his brilliant performance.
What all of these films capture so effortlessly is how a simple event can ripple through your life and create a tidal effect. One thing you can count on – these films are sure to leave a life-long effect on you.
